Hi all.

I just purchased an '06 Mazda6 i. Basically did the whole thing over the phone/fax. I told the dealer I would be in Monday to pick up the car, and give him the down payment and the title to my trade-in.

He said "you can take the Mazda home tonight." I was like...WHAT? Without a downpayment, or title to the trade????? He said "we know where you live."

Dealership is Maxon Mazda on route 22 in Union, NJ.

Anybody every heard of this before!?!???

This is a common practice at the Chevy dealer where I worked, and many of the nearby dealers of other makes. Once they have your personal info, they run a credit check and if you have a good credit score, you can drive away! All you need is a good FICO score.

WOW! Didn't know it was common...I'm still in minor shock!

One thing though - I lost my driver license like 3 weeks ago, and I have yet to go down to DMV for another (I work like 80 hours per week...so who the heck has time for that!?).

Hope that's not a problem in picking it up tonight!

Its very common but risky. I would wait till the paperwork is signed and sealed before I would drive your new car off the lot. They could make changes to your financing, paperwork, or deal and then your screwed.
