My 6 disc CD changer which I bought with my 04' broke, so I went looking online for one. I found an online company/junkyard that sold parts from damaged vehicles online, and they listed a 6 CD changer for the same year as my car for $180 which is way better than buying a brand new one for over $500. It arrived yesterday, and pretty much looked the same as my old one. I installed it, however, and after I put a CD in and pushed load (to load additional CD's) nothing happens, and obviously when I tell it to switch discs nothing happens - so I'm assuming they mistakenly sent me a single CD player. I called the guy and he agreed to pay for me to ship it back, and to give me a refund, as the ad clearly states that it is a 6 CD changer. My question is, is there anyway to tell if it's the single or 6 CD changer BEFORE installing it in the dash? Like is there a special part number or something otherwise indentifiable on the unit itself that tells me whether its a single or 6 CD changer?

The 6CD changer will have a specific part number though I'm not positive what it is right now. Go to
www.onlinemazdaparts.com and either send a message to or call Jason and he'll help you out with the numbers you need.

Also double check you owners manual. mI have an 07 with the 6 disk changer and there is a graphic on the player which shows multiple disks. I think its right around the load button. Its not real big. I didn't notice it until I saw in the manual that it was there

yeah, right by the load button is another thing that looks like a button and has a picture of multiple disks and says "6 disc changer"

that's just the face plate. technically you can buy that when you get a CD changer, but unless you want the little logo then it's not actually necessary as the load button is present on the single disc face.

The 6 Disc changer is also MP3 capable, i think, so to the left of the disc opening, the piece of plastic reads MP3 in italics, my single disc changer aslo has a load button.

Not necessarily. There's a Mp3/6CD changer, and there's also a
non-Mp3/6CD changer. The one without Mp3 capability is what comes standard on all cars with the changer option. The Mp3 capable one is a dealer only accessory.
