bose sub replacement

I have the 2006 6i with the bose system. I'm thinking about replacing the stock sub with a powered unit and want to use the speaker level inputs from the original sub to send the signal to my amp. Anyone tried this yet and did it work ok or do I need some kind of adaptor, any info would be appreciated.

i havent looked at the amplifier that powers the sub. it is under the driver's seat and is very hard to get to without taking the seat out. most likely two of the wires that go to the amplifer are the line levels for the sub. you could just take these off and use them or if you want to use both the bose and your new powered sub you could tap into the wire. though im not really sure which wire is what. maybe try searching google for a manual or tech service bulleitin on the bose systems... thats where i would start. let us know if you find anything

i'll have to admit, having my audio system changed was one of the best things/investments i've ever done. sure i would like to go fast and look nice but i would also not like to spend thousands either. my thing has always been about the "sounds" in the car first, IF ANYTHING. i dont mind driving stock as long as my music sounds decent. actually, it'll probably keep the jackers from jackin my shiznit since my ride ain't all flossy (which i wouldnt mind if it was flossy btw).
 
any how, i didn't have the bose to begin with (which im glad since i have a better upgrade now anyway) so i'm not completley sure but i think either way you need a rca convertor to convert to the right line level. if you are replacing the bose sub i would assume the bose amp as well. i guess it all depends if you are removing the whole thing, which i dont see why you would keep both. i would guess taping into the original line that goes into the bose amp. then after that, it's just plug and play. run new rca cables from the convertor to the new amp. keep in mind i'm pretty sure you'll still have to run power wires to the amp too. so that means running it from the battery. i don't know how else you can power the new amp... just my $.02 cents.

i plan to get the audio steering wheel control module which is $60 but i can wait since i have a remote control from my alpine anyway. i dont necessarily need both a remote and a steering remote. would be nice dont get me wrong, but not necessary.
 
did the whole installationg by myself. only ghetto part is how i ran the power wire which will eventually be fixed to look cleaner when ran through the grommet where it should've been to begin with. i ran in from the left side fender so it shows when opeing the driver side door but get tucked immediately on the side panel. i dont mind it much since it's my side and no one else can see it. the grommet is tough as crap to poke through and i dont have the tool. i will seriously just pay someone to do it cause it is seriously the hardest thing and i spent an hour trying to poke through without cutting any wires. then i said screw it cause it's to risky. other than that, it's a clean install.

i guess stealth is saying there're preamp outputs in the bose system??? i dont know but maybe you can only add on amp and speakers to already exisiting bose system???
 
either way i think best thing to do is just get a aftermarket head unit, sub and amp. you wont be sorry you did. you'd be amazed on the sound quality alone from just a head unit upgrade. believe me because i upgraded my stock speakers first which sounded good but then changed the head unit in a month later with same fosgate power components and it sounded even better. i guess you might get away with keeping the stock bose and still sound decent and save money instead of upgrading to new components.
 
the way i see it is if you knew you wanted thumps and an upgraded system, why spend money on the bose? now you're in a pickle of what to do since you dont want to completely change the bose system. but still want to sound better than stock bose system...
