Hi, new here and needing some info. I recently purchased a '91 b2600 4x4. It ran (barely) so I got it pretty cheap (or so I thought). I thought it needed a head gasket. Pulled the head and this motor had serious issues. Something had chewed up the inside of the # 2 hole and the head was shot. Not knowing the history of the motor or what else might be wrong with it I'm thinking of swapping the motor. I don't have to have a stock motor, I'm just looking for the cheapest way to get the truck going again. I can find a (supposedly good used) motor for this truck on the web in the $1200 $2000 price range. Any better ideas?

junk yard... much better idea. Shop around there. Find a "running" one there...
Even if you find one that dosent run. $200 in a bit better shape then the one youhave. And buy the rebuild kit for that.. Prolly udner $600. Then you will have saved a bit of cash...
