92' Protege Questions

Hi there. I just bought a 92' Protege DX w/ a manual transmission. Has 213,000 original miles. It was taken care of but a few things have come to my attention.. When taking off, I heard a whistle sound coming from the engine..Could this be a vaccum hose??? Also when down shifting, one of the belts make a screatching noise. This also happens when i have the heater on and rear defroster or if it's rainning. Which belt could this be??? I am also wondering why this car is a SOHC but has 16 vavles??? Many other cars that have 16 valves are DOHC. Is this normal??? Thanks 

it should have either 16 valves or dohc. it may just have a different valve cover on it. this sounds like the alternator belt and the whistle could be a lot of different things, i would have to hear it. check the vacuum lines to see if there are leaks or if they are hooked up incorrectly.
