Been having a problem starting my tribute on and off for about a year now!!! I have had a bunch of things done to it and the problem still occurs!!! Its not all the time and it seems to happen more in the heat and after its been sitting for several hours!! It will turn over and stall out, I have to keep my foot on the gas to keep it from stalling, after i get it running, it drives fine!!! Anyone ever have this problem??? It never stalls while driving just when starting???

What have you done to yours?

I also have an 01 and just now have experienced starting problems.

I recently had a starting problem in the heat here in Annapolis. I brought it to the dealer and they replaced the IAC valve. That was 3 weeks ago and it seems to be OK so far. It has been only moderately cooler than when the problem first cropped up.

What is an IAC valve and how much did it cost you?

Thanks.

Idle Air Control valve. Costs $70 at Autozone. I of course paid more for both parts and labor since it was diagnosed by my local dealer.

Idle Air Control valve. I see thanks. No problems so far? That's good. Where is the IAC located at?

Thanks,

Your IAC valve is located on the very top of the black plastic intake manifold. Locate the air cleaner housing and then follow the flixible black rubber boot to the throttle body at the intake manifodl inlet. IAC valve is just above the throttle body. Should be silver in color.
Sorry could not do a pic but our camera is missing.

My friends Ford Escape had the same problem. Apparently carbon builds up in it and makes it stop working, or something like that. I took that vavle off, cleaned it, and it worked for about another month. I also found that in a pinch, simply tapping on it lightly with something will get it to start. It's not a fix, but it may at least get you home.

I have exactly the same problem, let the vehicle cool down for 25 minute and restart. The problem is time, temperature dependent. Tapping IAC did not work for me.

The most frustrating thing is that engine run very well , spark plugs were replaced.

My other problem is missfiring at 3800 RPM. I am going to change all coil packs. Maybe my start up problem will go away too.

Any news???
