I have been driving my 2001 MPV without any problems until now. Two months after my warranty expires, I find out that my alternator needs to be replaced. I contacted the dealer and they want $400 for the new alternator and $200 to install it. In my infinite wisdom and cheapness I thought I outsmarted the dealer by finding and ordering a remanufactured alternator online for about $108 bucks. After I ordered the alternator I decided (admittingly too late) to take a look at my engine to get an idea of the type of job involved and was SHOCKED to see that the alternator is on the bottom side of the engine out the range of any normal human being with solid bones. Does anyone have any (non-silly) advise for me as to how I should attempt to change the alternator myself. I think I might need to get to it from the bottom, but I don't know if I would have any more room to work on it. Any advise would be appreciated.
