I have a 89 b2600i 4x4 that has never given my to much trouble from the time i purchased it new.
today it started to flash some of the idiot lights, i think it was flashing the washer, battery and the light next to that
which i think is the oil light.
This was while driving with the ac on and it seemed to happen around 1500 rpm and at idle as well
it has only done this now about 5 or 6 times.
i noticed when it was happening that it sounded like the fan speed was increasing while the light were on.
It sounds to me like the alternator is starting to fail but i am not sure.
I am hoping that someone else has the fast answer, or has had the same thing happen and knows the answer.
thanks
matt

I think your right about the alternator, I dont have first hand experiance with mazda but my toyota would do the same when there was a charging problem.

If you have a digital volt meter, check to see that the voltage is about ~13.8V at idle to about 1500 RPM.
its an intermittent thing I would almost guess its a loose wire some where near the alt. but i cant get it to do it
moving things around in there. it seems to be getting worse, it will be much easier to find once it fails 100%
I was just hoping that someone else might have had this problem.
I just hope its not on a long drive far from home...

Not exactly a Mazda, But.....
My 1987 Subaru will flash ALL of its idiot lights when the alternator is failing. I have had 2 Alternators fail in that car and both times it has flashed every single idiot light. Once the alternator fails they stay lit constantly until the alternator has been replaced.
got my hands on a good used alternator and put it in, no more flashing lights:)
ran great for a week.
now it has decided that it wants a rest and will not start, no spark.
looks like the pickup coil but not sure.
looks like i am looking for a distributor now:(
